Zuri is a co-founder and the Executive Director of CARE, Inc. He is always eager to contribute to positive change, whether on a personal or professional level. This commitment drives him to use his expertise in community organizing to support the mission of CARE, Inc. He connects resources to the most under-served individuals in our communities. Zuriβs intellect and vision shapes and sets the foundationβs strategies and overall direction.
Born on the beautiful Island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Zuri spent most of his youth playing his favorite sports soccer, and cricket. These years were pivotal in teaching him dedication, hard work, and team play. When he migrated to the United States that love for sports continued in High School, where he eventually won a championship in his senior year. This experience reinforced his mindset that you only fail when you give up. Zuriβs passion is working with people to solve complex organizational and leadership challenges. Heβs a humble visionary thatβs always imparts knowledge on his colleagues.
After graduating high school with honors, Zuri pursued an education in mechanical engineering at University of Maryland, College Park. Focused on fast tracking his career as a Railcar technician, he entered an apprenticeship program. Zuri tested out of the program one year ahead of schedule, and promoted up four classifications, becoming the youngest employee in company history to top out in his field of work. Heβs a skilled Railcar and automotive technician.
Zuri has been a political activist and vocal leader in advocating for workersβ rights in the political arenas of Maryland, DC, and Virginia. He has led discussions with county representatives and delegates to help foster change and bring awareness to under-served communities. He has given several speeches throughout the DMV and has a very keen way of articulating his views.
Zuri understands the difference between success and failure hinges on a fair opportunity. Over the course of his long tenor in the nonprofit space, Zuri has put action to advice, volunteering with several nonprofit organizations and most notably serving as a coach and mentor to many under-privileged and troubled teens in the DMV area. In his spare time Zuri loves spending time with his family and exploring different entrepreneurial ventures. Zuri hopes to use his experience to build bridges of support for communities lacking resources, giving everyone a fair opportunity to succeed.
